St. Anne’s and the Annual Catholic Appeal

For those of you unfamiliar with the Annual Catholic Appeal (or ACA), it is an annual campaign that kicks off each spring to support over 60 ministries throughout Western Washington. These ministries include Mental Health; Hospital/Criminal Justice; Faith Formation; Youth & Young Adult; Catholic Youth Organization (CYO); CYO camps; Marriage & Family Life; Priest, Seminarian & Deacon Services; and many others.

Additionally, the ACA provides centralized services to St. Anne’s and the rest of the parishes through Human Resources (Benefits/Payroll); Parish Financial Services; Property/Risk Management Services; and the Vicar for Clergy Services.
By participating in the ACA campaign, the St. Anne community offers support to ministries doing good work both within and outside of our parish boundaries.

St. Anne’s has a beautiful history of participating in the ACA. In the past decade we have exceeded our goal each year through your incredible generosity (see table below). This year our financial goal is to raise $103,380 and it would be amazing to see our participation match last year’s 38%.

How do I participate?

While we are a parish family, each of the parishes has their own ACA goal and rebate project. You can participate by either filling out an envelope (mailed out as well as in the pews) or by visiting: archseattle.org/giveaca.

When donating, please select “St. Anne Parish – 15 – Seattle” to ensure the parish receives credit for your gift.

What is a rebate or a rebate Project?

Once the goal is met, every amount donated above the parish’s goal comes back to the parish in a form of a rebate. Last year there was a choice in voting on the project the rebate money would go towards. The project that received the most votes was for the roof. Last year’s rebate in addition to this year’s rebate will be going towards roof repairs.

Status of Past Rebate Projects:

• 2022: the project was to purchase new banners for the church. Fabric samples have been purchased and we are working with a seamstress to assemble the first set which will be for ordinary time. This project has been delayed due to the passing of Jean Hushebeck, the parishioner who was helping move it forward.
• 2023: the project was to update the St. Francis Garden off First Avenue to invite the community and neighborhood into a place of peace and beauty. Parishioner Penny Kriese, a master gardener and landscape designer, has been leading the updates and improvements. At this point most of the work has been done – including the addition of lighting along the sidewalk and safer entry ways. If you are interested in working regularly in the garden to help with its upkeep, please reach out to the parish office.
• 2024: the St. Anne community participated in the selection of the rebate project by voting on a choice of three projects of which the winner was the roof repairs.* Additionally we had a matching gift for every dollar above our goal. We raised $16,722 above our goal so we currently have $33,444 for the roof project and hoping to continue to raise more in 2025.

*Once we received the bid for the runner up project of improving our heating control and thermostat system in the church, it was decided that we’d work to absorb that cost into this year’s operating budget.
