Parish Life

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

As we journey through Lent, we reflect on our human nature and our weaknesses. Yet, we are filled with hope – hope that our loving Father will show us mercy, heal us, and redeem us through His Son. HOPE is such a powerful word, growing ever more significant as the world around us seems to become increasingly chaotic. This Lent, we will focus on the theological virtue of HOPE, placing it at the heart of our mission.

Fr. Marcin will lead our 4-day Lent mission and invites us to “delve into the meaning and importance of hope, and how it shapes our lives and faith. Together, we will learn how to place hope at the center of our lives, alongside love and faith.” Whether you can join us for one evening or all four, you are very welcome to these evenings of reflection!

Read more about our Lent mission in this bulletin.

Lent Mission guided by Fr. Marcin on 31st March, 1st, 2nd & 3rd April.

Part 4 of 5: Growing in Holiness Through Confession

Confession is not just about removing sin—it is about growing in holiness. Each time we sincerely repent, Jesus strengthens us to become more like Him.

Lent is a season of spiritual growth, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the greatest tools for transformation. Every time we confess, we receive actual grace, which helps us resist sin and develop virtue. If we struggle with pride, confession helps us grow in humility. If we struggle with impatience, it helps us develop patience. The more frequently we go, the more we allow Jesus to shape us.

This sacrament also teaches us humility. Admitting our sins before God reminds us that we cannot save ourselves—we need His mercy. This humility makes our hearts more open to grace and more compassionate toward others.

Moreover, confession strengthens our relationship with Jesus. Just as a good friendship requires honesty and reconciliation, our relationship with Christ deepens when we regularly seek His mercy. Jesus is always ready to forgive, and the more we turn to Him, the more we learn to trust in His love.

As we approach the final part of this series, we will reflect on how regular confession prepares us to fully experience the joy of Easter and the resurrection of Christ.

We warmly invite you to our Penance service at Our Lady of Fatima.

Dear St. Anne Parishioners,

I am writing to share important news about a transition in leadership at St. Anne Parish School. After 30 years of dedicated service to Catholic education—three as our beloved principal—Mrs. Heidi Austin will be retiring at the end of this school year. She has prayerfully discerned that the time has come to step back from her ministerial role to spend more time with her family.

We are deeply grateful for Heidi’s tireless commitment to our students, families, and faculty. Her leadership has strengthened our school’s Catholic identity, academic excellence, and sense of community. Her influence in the lives of so many children and families will remain a lasting legacy, and we wish her every blessing in this next chapter of her life.

After consultation with the Archdiocesan Schools Office, I am pleased to announce that, Mr. Sean Haffey, our current Vice Principal, has agreed to serve as our Interim Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. Sean has been an integral part of our school leadership for the past three years, and I have great confidence in his ability to continue guiding St. Anne with faith, wisdom, and dedication as we prepare for this transition.

In the months ahead, we will have opportunities to celebrate Heidi’s ministry and express our gratitude for her many years of faithful service. Please join me in praying for her as she embarks on this new journey and for Sean as he prepares to take on this important role.

Thank you for your continued commitment to St. Anne Parish School and our mission of forming young disciples of Jesus Christ.

Faithfully yours,

Fr. Patrick Freitag

Pastor

Lent Mission

Experience a Lent mission, a unique and enriching journey of spiritual renewal and reflection during the sacred season of Lent. These missions offer a wonderful opportunity for individuals and communities to come together, deepen their faith, and prepare their hearts for the joyous celebration of Easter. Embrace this time of growth and transformation with us, guided by Fr Marcin Szymanski.

Fr Marcin Szymanski OP

Fr Marcin Szymanski OP – was born in Poland, where he joined the Dominican Order in 2003. After ordination, he served the Polish and Irish community in Dublin, Ireland. Father Marcin came to Seattle in 2013, where he has been working in the Blessed Sacrament parish and Prince of Peace Newman Center since with a two-year break where he served in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah. He enjoys PNW: its history, nature, and diverse geography.

“In the jubilee year of 2025, Pope Francis invites us to focus on the theological virtue of hope. In our retreat, we will explore the meaning and importance of hope, and how it shapes us in our life and in our faith. We will learn how to put hope in the center of our lives together with love and faith.”
