Facing Myself

Lent –

Once a year, a good reason to look at myself!

Addiction?

No, I don’t have anything like that!!!

Or do I?

A chocolate bar now and then – with all the stress!

A cup of coffee in the afternoon to keep going – that’s normal!

A glass of red wine in the evening – you need that to unwind!

Do I really need that?

Lent –

Once a year, a good reason to take inventory!

To get to the bottom of things and myself!

To uncover what remains hidden in everyday life!

To be brave!

To look at myself unflinchingly!

To give my soul a “spring cleaning”!

Then Easter will also come in my heart!

Lenten Journey: Preparing Our Hearts and Minds for Easter

Part 2 of 5: Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation

Having recognized our need for repentance, we now ask: How does Jesus bring us back to God? The answer lies in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where we encounter Christ’s mercy in a deeply personal way.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus forgave sins. He healed the paralyzed man by first saying, “Your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5). He pardoned the woman caught in adultery, saying, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on, do not sin anymore” (John 8:11). These encounters were not merely symbolic—they were real experiences of God’s mercy.

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus entrusted this ministry of forgiveness to His apostles, saying, “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them” (John 20:23). This authority has been passed down through the Church, so when we go to confession, we are not simply speaking to a priest—we are encountering Jesus Himself, who offers us the same mercy He gave during His time on earth.

Confession is not just about admitting faults; it is about receiving the healing grace of Christ. Through the words of absolution, Jesus forgives us, restores us to grace, and strengthens us against future temptation.

In the next part of this series, we will reflect on why Jesus not only forgives our sins but also heals our souls, and how the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a path to deeper freedom and peace.

Lent Mission

Join us for our Parish Family Lent Mission

Experience a Lent mission, a unique and enriching journey of spiritual renewal and reflection during the sacred season of Lent. These missions offer a wonderful opportunity for individuals and communities to come together, deepen their faith, and prepare their hearts for the joyous celebration of Easter. Embrace this time of growth and transformation with us, guided by Fr Marcin Szymanski.

Fr Marcin Szymanski OP

Fr Marcin Szymanski OP – was born in Poland, where he joined the Dominican Order in 2003. After ordination, he served the Polish and Irish community in Dublin, Ireland. Father Marcin came to Seattle in 2013, where he has been working in the Blessed Sacrament parish and Prince of Peace Newman Center since with a two-year break where he served in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah. He enjoys PNW: its history, nature, and diverse geography.

“In the jubilee year of 2025, Pope Francis invites us to focus on the theological virtue of hope. In our retreat, we will explore the meaning and importance of hope, and how it shapes us in our life and in our faith. We will learn how to put hope in the center of our lives together with love and faith.”

Finance Spotlight in March

Dear Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Anne Parishioners,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend! This month I am diving deep into budget development for the three parishes for the new fiscal year which starts on July 1. In addition to a few updates and some recent finances, I wanted to provide an early opportunity to donate towards the Easter flower fund. Earlier donations help us determine our flower order – thank you in advance for your support.

God bless,

Brigid

Eritrea Donations – Thank you

In January there was a visiting priest at Our Lady of Fatima and St. Anne’s who spoke about his home Eparchy (diocese) of Keren in Eritrea, Africa. A collection went out to send money to Eritrea – between the two parishes almost $4,000 was sent. We received a letter from the Bishop of Keren thanking us and I wanted to make sure to pass it along to you.

Your generosity was and is very much appreciated!
