Parish Family Life

Dear Parishioners,

This week highlights a special milestone: Our First Year as a Parish Family Northwest Seattle Catholic of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady of Fatima, and St. Anne.

In July 2024, the Archdiocese of Seattle formed 60 parish families from 136 parishes as part of the Partners in the Gospel initiative. This was more than a structural change—it was a call to renewal.

As a Church, we are being invited to slow down, to listen deeply—to God, to one another, and to our communities. This time of transition is not just about reorganization; it’s about asking the deeper questions:

  • What gives life?
  • What do we need to let go of?
  • What is God inviting us into?

Together, we’ve begun to reimagine how we steward our gifts, spaces, and resources to support the mission of Jesus Christ: to go and make disciples. This mission remains at the heart of the Catholic Church in Western Washington.

Partners in the Gospel is our opportunity to renew our commitment to this mission and to shape a vibrant, Spirit-led future for our parish family.

Let us celebrate this first year with gratitude, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose!

Your Parish Family Leadership Team

The Archdiocese of Seattle about the First Year of Parish Families

On July 1, 2024, the 136 parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle became 60 parish families, with eight stand- alone parishes. Led by a pastor or pastoral coordinator, along with a parochial vicar, parish families just completed the first year of the three-year process of creatively re-envisioning parish life to bring the love of Jesus Christ to others in Western Washington.

Focused on welcoming and getting to know each other, this first year was full of community events, pastor meet and greets and getting to know the gifts of each parish in a parish family. Pastors met their assigned parish liaisons who will support the parish family through the process. First steps for staff included getting to know each other and for some parishes, joint staff retreats were held. Later in the year, each parish family formed new groups including the Parish Family Leadership Team comprised of parish staff and the Parish Family Advisory Council comprised of parishioners representing the rich diversity of the parishes in the parish family.

Now that these groups are in place, the parish family will dive into the planning work outlined in the One Parish Planning process. This process is designed to help parish families develop a vision for the future and the plan to execute it – ensuring these are grounded in listening and community discernment to foster local decision-making.

In this first phase of our journey, we’ve focused on welcoming one another and building relationships, and we’ve made wonderful progress.

Part III of 6: Private Property and the Digital Commons

Over the course of six Sundays, this bulletin series will highlight key teachings from Rerum Novarum and explore their relevance in today’s world. As Pope Leo XIV begins his pontificate, may Catholic social teaching continue to guide us in shaping a just and humane future amid rapid technological change.

Who Owns What in the Information Age?

Rerum Novarum strongly defends the right to private property—but not as an absolute right. Property, including wealth and capital, must serve the common good. In our digital age, that raises new questions: Who owns your data? Who profits from your attention? Today’s tech giants have become the landlords of cyberspace. They harvest information, shape culture, and wield vast influence—often with little accountability. As Catholics, we must evaluate whether digital “ownership” respects human dignity and social justice. The legacy of Pope Leo XIII challenges us to use all forms of property—material and digital—for the good of all. Pope Leo XIV will likely continue this call as digital power reshapes society.

Reflection Question:

How do I use my possessions—including digital tools and platforms—in service of others and the common good?

P.S. Rerum Novarum is downloadable at many sites. The original can be found at: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiii/en/encyclicals.index.html

In Loving Memory of Jean Hushebeck

Tuesday, July 8th marks one year since the passing of Jean Hushebeck, a cherished member of the St. Anne parish. Jean was a devoted parishioner whose faith and dedication left a lasting impact on our community.

To honor her memory, a Mass will be offered at St. Anne on that day. In a beautiful gesture of remembrance, fellow parishioners have volunteered to lead a rosary at 8:30 AM, just before the Mass. All are warmly invited to join in prayer as we remember Jean and give thanks for her life and legacy.
