Parish Family Life

Dear Parish Family,

Every now and then, we are blessed with a rare and precious gift: time. Time without obligations, distractions, or demands—a quiet space to simply be. In such moments, we are invited to pause, to listen deeply, and to reflect on what truly nourishes our hearts and souls.

These pauses, whether long or brief, offer us the opportunity to step away from the constant rhythm of daily responsibilities. They allow us to notice what brings peace, what feels right, and what may be calling for change. In the stillness, we may rediscover the gentle voice of God, guiding us toward rest, renewal, and gratitude.

While not everyone may have the luxury of a full day to themselves, even a few quiet minutes can become sacred. A walk in nature, a moment of prayer, or a simple breath of silence can help us reconnect with the presence of God and the rhythm of grace.

As a parish community, let us encourage one another to embrace these moments of rest and reflection. May we find joy in listening, wondering, playing, and simply being present. And may we have the courage to respond to what the Holy Spirit reveals in those quiet spaces.

Wishing each of you peace, renewal, and the grace to rest in God’s loving care.

Part II of 6: Human Work in the Age of Automation

Over the course of six Sundays, this bulletin series will highlight key teachings from Rerum Novarum and explore their relevance in today’s world. As Pope Leo XIV begins his pontificate, may Catholic social teaching continue to guide us in shaping a just and humane future amid rapid technological change.

The Dignity of Labor and the Rise of AI

Work is sacred. Pope Leo XIII insisted that labor is not a commodity, but an extension of the person. Yet in today’s world, many jobs are being outsourced to machines. AI can now write reports, deliver packages, and even diagnose illnesses. But can it honor the dignity of the human worker?

Catholic social teaching urges us to ask: Does our use of technology reflect justice and respect for the worker? As the economy evolves, we must ensure that people are not left behind. Human beings must never be treated as disposable in the pursuit of efficiency.

Pope Leo XIV inherits a Church that must confront this new digital frontier with the same moral clarity and courage that his namesake showed over a century ago.

Reflection Question:

In what ways can I affirm the dignity of human work in my own profession or in how I treat others?

P.S. Rerum Novarum is downloadable at many sites. The original can be found at: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiii/en/encyclicals.index.html

Facilities at Our Lady of Fatima

Dear Parishioners,

Fortunately, the summer is off to a somewhat quiet start.

Projects at the school (Levi has replaced 48 damaged lunchroom tiles, floor stripping and recoating, window cleaning, carpet shampooing, etc.) are all under way. And, the gym floor is scheduled to be recoated before the end of the month.

Things are quiet at the church but we are monitoring two circulating pumps. One is making a little noise and the other has a pump bearing seal that is leaking (not seriously but it’s not going to get any better) — we are evaluating if it can be repaired or if it should be replaced.

Levi has been busy: the Parish Center and Sacristy carpets where shampooed, pews cleaned, pews tops re-stained and polished, and he did some concrete repair on the sidewalk by the Rectory Patio.

We’re thankful for the calm and continue to move forward with care and purpose.

Facilities at Sacred Heart of Jesus & St. Anne

Dear Parishioners,

We’re grateful for the continued progress in maintaining and improving our parish facilities. Here’s a brief update on recent work across our campuses:

At Sacred Heart of Jesus:

  • Our annual fire safety inspections have been completed.
  • A few fire extinguishers are being replaced to ensure continued safety.

At St. Anne:

  • The crash bar mechanism at the school has been successfully repaired.
  • We are awaiting a replacement part for the church parking lot entrance door, which is currently out of order.

At Banchero Hall and the School:

  • The annual roof and gutter inspection was completed. Clogged gutters were cleared, and all potential leak areas have been sealed.
  • The kitchen hood has undergone its scheduled inspection and cleaning.

St. Francis Garden:

  • We are working to secure the garden lighting to prevent it from being knocked over.

Parish Office:

  • We’ve upgraded to a professional-grade copier/printer, which will significantly enhance the quality of our in-house printing—especially important as we move toward printing our bulletins on-site.

Thank you for your continued support as we care for the spaces that serve our parish family.

Director of Operations for Sacred Heart of Jesus & St. Anne

Mass Time Change – Sacred Heart of Jesus

Starting Sunday, July 6th, the Sunday evening Mass at 5:30 PM will move to 5:00 PM.

This change is being made to better manoeuver high traffic times caused by events at the Climate Pledge Arena.

Please mark your calendars and spread the word! Thank you for your understanding and continued participation in our parish family life.

Traffic Advisory – Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus

Please be aware of increased traffic near the Seattle Center.

Seattle Pride Fest and Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, June 29, which may lead to significant traffic and limited parking in the area.

If you’re attending Sacred Heart of Jesus Sunday Mass, please allow extra travel time when planning your route.

Happy Independence Day!

Please note:
Our parish family offices will be closed on Friday, July 4th.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and joyful celebration as we give thanks for the blessings of freedom and community.

Living Out Hope in Our Families

This Jubilee calls us to look beyond ourselves and see the needs of the world around us. Hope is not passive; it moves us to action. As Catholics, we are called to work for justice, peace, and the dignity of all people.

In Spes Non Confundit, late Pope Francis calls us to be “agents of hope” in society:

“The hope we profess must overflow into the works of justice, care for the poor, and stewardship of creation. In this way, hope becomes a transforming force in the world.”

During this Jubilee Year, consider how you can bring hope to your community. Whether it’s through acts of charity, advocacy for the vulnerable, or environmental stewardship, every effort we make to build a just and peaceful world reflects God’s kingdom on earth.

Our Lady of Fatima Quilters

A heartfelt thank you to our quilting group!

Twelve beautiful quilts were recently delivered to Mary’s Place downtown on June 18, bringing warmth and comfort to those in need. In addition, two special quilts were donated to a newly arrived refugee family—a couple and their 12-year-old child—as a gesture of welcome and care.

We’re always happy to welcome new members to our group! All sewing is done at home, and we gather just once a month to share ideas, encouragement, and fellowship. Whether you’re an experienced quilter or just curious, we’d love to have you join us.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, July 1 at 10 a.m. in the Fatima Parish Center.

Feel free to drop by and see what we’re all about!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone in our parish family who has contributed so far. Your generosity supports ministries across Western Washington and helps fund vital rebate projects within our parishes.
