Parish Life

Dear Parishioners, dear Friends,

We are currently in the midst of the Easter season. It lasts for 50 days to celebrate the event of Jesus’ resurrection. These 50 days allow us to let the incredible message that life and love triumph into our hearts piece by piece. The Gospels during the Easter season repeatedly tell of this. Jesus’ disciples could not immediately grasp that Jesus actually lives. But the Bible reports that Jesus finds ways to come to the disciples to show them:

“I am with you!”

Only slowly do they begin to realize that their friend actually lives. Piece by piece, they are led to understand this good news.

In our community, we get together, Jesus is amongst us, and good things are happening in his name. Learn more in this week’s bulletin:

  • – The Joyful Announcement of Our New Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV
  • – ACA: The Annual Catholic Appeal funds the ministries of our archdiocese here in Western Washington. The theme this year is “Together in faith.” Witness speakers at our church locations this weekend are Chris Koehler, Director of Missions and Immigrant Affairs, and Kathleen Koeneman, Vocations Program Manager.
  • – First Communion: 47 children in our parish family are receiving their First Communion this month. Whether they have already celebrated or are about to, we hold them in our prayers and hearts.
  • – St. Vincent de Paul: Read how they helped our neighbors.
  • – Knights of Columbus: They handed out school scholarships.
  • – Flores de Mayo: A beautiful celebration.
  • – St. Martin Food Program: Serving food for more than 18 years.

I wish everyone a continued blessed Easter season,

Barbara Bumbarger

Our New Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

With hearts full of gratitude and awe before the mystery of God’s providence, I share with you the joyful and historic news—His Eminence Robert Cardinal Prevost has been elected as the Successor of Saint Peter and taken the name, Pope Leo XIV.

This moment marks a new chapter in the life of the Church and the world. As the white smoke rose over the Vatican and the bells of St. Peter’s rang out, the universal Church rejoiced at the gift of a new Holy Father—a man of deep prayer, wisdom, and pastoral zeal. Pope Leo XIV, now the 267th Vicar of Christ, steps forward to shepherd the flock of Christ with courage, humility, and hope.

As your pastor, I invite you to unite in prayer for our new pope. Let us thank the Holy Spirit for guiding the College of Cardinals and let us entrust Pope Leo XIV to the loving intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, and of St. Peter, the first Pope.

How blessed we are by God during this Jubilee Year of Hope! May our new Pontiff usher in an era of hope, peace, and joy for the Catholic Church and all humanity. In the spirit of solidarity, let us rededicate ourselves to the Gospel and walk together in fidelity to Jesus Christ and His Church.

In the coming days, we will offer special prayers of thanksgiving at Mass and commemorate this historic moment with joy and reverence.

Viva il Papa Leone XIV!

In Christ,

Fr. Freitag

Fourth Sunday of Easter: The Shepherd Who Knows Us

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

In a world full of competing voices, the voice of the Good Shepherd still calls out: clear, steady, personal. He knows us—not as strangers or statistics—but as beloved sons and daughters.

Jesus doesn’t promise an easy path, but He promises Himself. And that is everything. “No one can take them out of my hand,” He says. In His voice is safety. In His hands, our lives are secure.

This is the foundation of Easter hope. Christ has risen—and He remains our Shepherd, walking with us through every valley and leading us to green pastures. Even in times of confusion or doubt, His voice can be trusted.

In this Jubilee Year of Hope, we are called to listen more closely. Hope grows when we turn down the noise of fear and tune our hearts to the Shepherd who speaks in peace.

Pope Francis reminds us: “The Lord never tires of calling us. Even if we move away, He searches for us and waits with open arms.” In every Mass, in every moment of prayer, Jesus speaks again: “Follow me.”

Let us follow where Jesus leads—with hearts full of confidence. The Shepherd is risen. He knows the way.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Archbishop Etienne: “Together in Faith”

The Annual Catholic Appeal funds ministries and services for your local Catholic community – including your neighbors and parish. Your contributions secure the future of the local Church by supporting Catholic education, CYO camps, faith formation and guidance and training for our seminarians, clergy, and lay leaders. Your donation also funds shared services directly supporting your parish.

How do I participate?

While we are a parish family, each of the parishes has their own ACA goal and rebate project. You can participate by either filling out an envelope (mailed out as well as in the pews) or by visiting: archseattle.org/giveaca.

When donating, please select the parish you want to credit with your ACA donation and your contribution will count towards your parish’s goal.

Choose St. Anne Parish – 15 – Seattle  This way you will support the St. Anne rebate project: ROOF REPAIRS! Last year’s rebate in addition to this year’s rebate will be going towards roof repairs. Learn more about St. Anne’s ACA and our goal for that parish here.

Choose Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – 13 – Seattle  This way you will support the Sacred Heart of Jesus rebate project: RAILINGS WITHIN THE SANCTUARY! This year, the rebate money will help with the installation of railings within the sanctuary. This will help ensuring the Redemptorists and other presiding priests have the support they need while moving
around the sanctuary. Learn more about Sacred Heart of Jesus’ ACA and our goal for that parish.

Choose Our Lady of Fatima Parish – 8 – Seattle   This way you will support the Our Lady of Fatima rebate project: BOILER REPAIR! This year, the rebate money will be to recoup the
ongoing expenses associated to the boiler repair. It is a $50,000+ bill and unfortunately still not fully repaired. Learn more about Our Lady of Fatima’s ACA and our goal for that parish.

St. Anne - Saint Vincent de Paul

Thank you for your unwavering generosity. Because of your support, our Saint Vincent de Paul group has been able to make a significant impact over the past two months. We have assisted our neighbors on the hill with:

A special thanks to St. Anne School, and particularly to Technology Specialist Claire Marr. On April 29th, our group successfully completed the online safety training required by St. Vincent de Paul at the school. Claire’s patience and support were invaluable.
