Our Pastor on the Passing of Pope Francis

“Peace be with you.”

These are the first words Jesus speaks to His disciples in today’s Gospel. Behind locked doors, afraid and uncertain, they are met not with rebuke, but with mercy. A mercy focused on peace, healing, and mission.

This Divine Mercy Sunday arrives at a time of sorrow and reflection. Just days ago, Pope Francis was called home to God. For over a decade, he served as a humble shepherd, a man of deep compassion and unwavering trust in the mercy of Christ. Now we commend him to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, praying for his soul and giving thanks for his life.

With the Chair of Peter vacant, we also turn to the Holy Spirit and pray for the College of Cardinals as they prepare to gather in conclave to elect a new pope from their ranks. In this moment, we are invited to trust, just as the Apostles once did. They, too, began their mission in fear and confusion—until the Risen Christ appeared and breathed His Spirit upon them.

So too now, Christ comes to us. His mercy has not failed. His Spirit has not left the Church.

Pope Francis reminded us often: “The name of God is Mercy.” May he rest in that mercy as we, the Church, continue to be witnesses of it.

Let us pray for Pope Francis’ repose, for the Cardinals gathering in Rome, and for our next Holy Father. And may the words of Jesus resound in every season of change:

“Peace be with you.”

Faithfully yours,

Fr. Freitag

Mass and Prayers for Pope Francis

Since there are no Masses for the dead during the Easter octave, Archbishop Etienne will be waiting until next week to honor Pope Francis. He will say Mass with a Votive for the death of Pope Francis, next Monday at 12:10pm at St. James Cathedral.

Archbishop Paul D. Etienne shares:

“I am deeply saddened at the news of the death of Pope Francis. I am also profoundly grateful for his years of witness to the Gospel. By his teaching and pastoral charity, he has reminded us that the heart of God is loving mercy and all people are called to exercise this mercy in all of our relationships. May Pope Francis now experience the same loving mercy from the living God he served so selflessly throughout his ministry and life. Please join me in praying for the peaceful repose of this good shepherd.”

All are encouraged in these days to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Archbishop Etienne: “Together in Faith”

The Annual Catholic Appeal funds ministries and services for your local Catholic community – including your neighbors and parish. Your contributions secure the future of the local Church by supporting Catholic education, CYO camps, faith formation and guidance and training for our seminarians, clergy, and lay leaders. Your donation also funds shared services directly supporting your parish.

How do I participate?

While we are a parish family, each of the parishes has their own ACA goal and rebate project. You can participate by either filling out an envelope (mailed out as well as in the pews) or by visiting: archseattle.org/giveaca.

When donating, please select the parish you want to credit with your ACA donation and your contribution will count towards your parish’s goal.

Choose St. Anne Parish – 15 – Seattle  This way you will support the St. Anne rebate project: ROOF REPAIRS! Last year’s rebate in addition to this year’s rebate will be going towards roof repairs. Learn more about St. Anne’s ACA and our goal for that parish here.

Choose Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – 13 – Seattle  This way you will support the Sacred Heart of Jesus rebate project: RAILINGS WITHIN THE SANCTUARY! This year, the rebate money will help with the installation of railings within the sanctuary. This will help ensuring the Redemptorists and other presiding priests have the support they need while moving
around the sanctuary. Learn more about Sacred Heart of Jesus’ ACA and our goal for that parish.

Choose Our Lady of Fatima Parish – 8 – Seattle   This way you will support the Our Lady of Fatima rebate project: BOILER REPAIR! This year, the rebate money will be to recoup the
ongoing expenses associated to the boiler repair. It is a $50,000+ bill and unfortunately still not fully repaired. Learn more about Our Lady of Fatima’s ACA and our goal for that parish.

We encourage all the members of the Northwest Seattle Catholic Parish Family, especially families with small children, to participate.

After Mass, there will be Philippine foods, entertainment, and prizes in Our Lady of Fatima Parish Social Center. All are invited to attend. If possible, please bring a dessert to share with all of us. Flores de Mayo is sponsored by the Filipino American Society in Magnolia. Music during the Triduum

A big thank you to the choirs from all three parishes of our Parish Family Northwest Seattle Catholic for your amazing performances during the Triduum. Your music was so well received and brought such joy to our celebrations. We’re incredibly grateful for your dedication and the beautiful gift of your voices. You truly made our worship experience special. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!

Blood Donation

There’s lifesaving power in all of us. By donating blood, you’re helping patients needing blood transfusions for challenging procedures and treatments. Blood transfusions are one of the most common procedures in hospitals and volunteer blood donors are the only source. Will you SPRING into action and help ensure an ample blood supply for our community?

Our Lady of Fatima (3218 W. Barrett St) is hosting a blood drive in the parish center. It will be held on Monday May 5. Please sign up to reserve your time slot!

Appointments are required. If you need help booking an appointment, please call 1-800-398-7888 or e-mail schedule@bloodworksnw.org

Friendly reminders to hydrate well and eat a meal prior to giving blood and bring photo ID. Please consider eating foods rich in iron leading up to blood donation day.
