Parish Life

Dear Parish Family,

Have you made a Lent commitment this year? Perhaps you’ve decided to fast from social media, coffee, or something else that holds a significant place in your heart – something that maybe shouldn’t have such a strong hold. Or maybe you’ve chosen to make more space in your heart and in your schedule for Him, perhaps by attending daily Mass.

For me, Lent is a time to pause and take inventory of what has a hold on me. Usually, I don’t like stops. When walking through the city and wanting to cross the street at a traffic light, we are often forced to pause for a moment before the signal to proceed appears. How do you feel about such moments? Do you feel slowed down by red lights on your way? Or are they a welcome little break before the Go-signal clears the way again?

The picture on our bulletin this week evokes two different perspectives on taking a break: On the one hand, where do I look for stops in everyday life to pause and take inventory? On the other hand, what holds me back? Who holds me back? Do I have habits that put a hold on me?

Lent can offer a starting point to consciously look for stops in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to reconnect with myself, with others, and with God. During this Lenten season, the Parish Family Bulletin will provide many suggestions to help you reconnect.

I wish you a good start to Lent!

Lenten Journey: Preparing Our Hearts and Minds for Easter

Part 1 of 5: Jesus’ Call to Repentance and Conversion

Lent is a sacred season of reflection and renewal, and at its heart is a call to repentance. From the very beginning of His public ministry, Jesus proclaimed, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). His mission was one of healing, mercy, and reconciliation—restoring humanity’s relationship with God.

This call to repentance is not meant to burden us with guilt but to free us from sin. Jesus does not ask us to repent because He wishes to condemn us; rather, He desires our transformation. Sin wounds our souls and distances us from God, but through repentance, we begin the journey back to Him.

During Lent, we are invited to examine our hearts and recognize where we have strayed. However, acknowledging our sins is only the first step. True repentance requires a turning away from sin and a turning toward God. Jesus does not leave us to do this alone—He offers us the grace we need through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

As we begin this Lenten journey, let us open our hearts to Jesus’ call to conversion. In the next part of this series, we will explore how the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the means by which Jesus Himself forgives and restores us, continuing His work of mercy in our lives today.

Hello, middle school students!

The Archdiocese of Seattle invites you to the upcoming Middle School Encounter on Saturday, March 15th! You can join a group of students and chaperones from our Parish Family (Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Anne). Transportation is provided. We will depart from the OLF parking lot at 9:15am and return around 5:30pm.

For our middle school students who recently received the Rite of Confirmation, this encounter is an excellent way to lean-in to the gifts received, further develop the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, and encounter Christ.

For more information and to sign-up please visit this link.

St Martin’s Shelter Meal Program

The Our Lady of Fatima Ministry for the St Martin’s Shelter Meal Program is working on the new spring/summer schedule! This will be their 18th year of serving the men who are housed in the old Coast Guard Building in the Sodo district.

Each volunteer/family provides 10 individual “hearty protein sandwiches” with extras (breakfast bars, small cans of pop, chips, instant cereal packets, instant soups) to be brought to the Fatima parking lot between 4:30-5:00 on scheduled Tuesdays and our drivers deliver the meals in the Parish bus. Most volunteers provide meals once a month, however the schedule is flexible.

The scheduled dates for these Tuesdays are:

April 8 & 29 | May 6 & 20 | June 10 & 24 | July 8 & 22 | August 12 & 26 | September 9 & 23

If you have vacation or other known “can’t do” dates, please let us know soon so our first draft is as close as possible. The new schedule will be sent via email the week of March 25.

If you would like more information or to join the team please contact:
