Parish Family Life

“By gracious powers so wonderfully sheltered,

we confidently await whatever may come.

God is with us in the evening and in the morning,

and most certainly on every new day.”

The long version of this prayer was written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 1944 while he was imprisoned by the Nazis. The prayer has become a powerful expression of trust and inner freedom.

Dear Parish Family,

In the warmth of summer, when days stretch long and light lingers into evening, we are reminded of the gentle presence of God that surrounds us—quiet, steady, and faithful. Bonhoeffer’s words, “By gracious powers so wonderfully sheltered…”, speak of a deep trust that transcends circumstance.

Even in times of uncertainty or change, this prayer invites us to rest in the assurance that God is with us— “in the evening and in the morning and most certainly on every new day.”

Summer, with its beauty and stillness, becomes a sacred space to breathe, to let go, and to trust that we are held. May this season be one of renewal, where we find freedom not in doing more, but in being still—sheltered by grace, and open to the quiet work of God in our hearts.

Part IV of 6: The Role of the State and the Common Good

Over the course of six Sundays, this bulletin series will highlight key teachings from Rerum Novarum and explore their relevance in today’s world. As Pope Leo XIV begins his pontificate, may Catholic social teaching continue to guide us in shaping a just and humane future amid rapid technological change.

Can Government Keep Up with Technology?

Pope Leo XIII taught that the state has a responsibility to protect workers, support families, and ensure justice. He warned against both government overreach and government indifference. The goal: to promote the common good.

Fast-forward to today: Can governments keep pace with the rapid development of AI and technology? Should they regulate algorithms, protect workers displaced by machines, or curb misinformation online?

Pope Leo XIV inherits a global Church at a moment when power is increasingly held by non-state actors—tech companies, data brokers, AI labs. We need public policies that protect people, especially the most vulnerable, and ensure that technological progress benefits everyone—not just the elite.

Reflection Question:

What role should government—and I as a citizen—play in making technology more just and humane?

St. Anne - Saint Vincent de Paul

A Queen Anne neighbor that we recently assisted sent the following message:

“Thank you so much for your help! You have no idea what it means to me.

Having an organization to help with no judgement is such a gift.”

A disabled resident at Cogir Senior Living (805 5th Ave. N) needs help with carrying her groceries from her vehicle to her apartment. The neighbor will need assistance twice a month. If you would like to help out with this request, contact the St. Anne’s parish office.

You help nourish the hungry, clothe those in need,

and keep our neighbors secure in their homes.

Your compassion brings hope and dignity to countless lives.

Thank you for supporting St. Vincent de Paul.

Thank you for making a difference.

Joyful Celebration at Sacred Heart of Jesus - a Look Back

We’re happy to share that our recent BBQ was a wonderful success!

The day began with a beautiful 10 AM Mass, joyfully attended by over 300 parishioners. Fr. Lyle and Fr. Dominic concelebrated, bringing a heartfelt and festive spirit to this special celebration. Before the final blessing, Fr. Lyle was surprised with a bouquet of flowers—a heartfelt gesture that brought smiles all around. After Mass, the vestibule was filled with parishioners eager to thank Fr. Lyle personally and share cards of appreciation.

The celebration continued outside, where more than 200 hot dogs were served—and not a single one was left! People stayed to enjoy the sunshine, good food, and great company. It was especially lovely to see parishioners from St. Anne and Our Lady of Fatima join the Sacred Heart of Jesus community, making it a true parish family event.

This joyful gathering honored three special occasions in our parish life:

  • The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (June 27)
  • The Feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (June 27)
  • Fr. Lyle’s 64th Anniversary of Ordination (June 29, 1961)

A heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteers who helped make this day so special. Let’s keep celebrating the many blessings in our parish life—together!

Lectors Needed

Become a Lector and help bring Scripture to life during Mass. Your voice can inspire, uplift, and deepen the faith of our parish family.

Serving as a Lector is also a great way to grow in confidence and improve your public speaking skills—all within a supportive and faith-filled environment.

We are currently seeking Lectors for all three of our church locations.

The time commitment is flexible—just one Saturday or Sunday Mass per month.

If you’re interested in joining this meaningful ministry, please contact your parish office.
